UNRESERVED screens TODAY at Seattle International...
Much to catch up on since my last post, but let’s just say that it was a flurry of catching trains, subways, and planes! We have safely arrived back in Seattle and are gearing up for the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) screening today. I will post again this weekend with a full recap of the past few days with some insightful reflections on the big lessons that we learned from the...

Last Day in Cannes (continued...)
As promised, I will share highlights from last night’s experience aboard Paul G. Allen’s yacht, “Octopussy”. In a word - WOW! I was in awe of the beauty and expanse of the yacht, the guest list, and the food and beverage spread which included a sushi bar, Japanese grill, sakitini bar, Chinese food bar, and endless champagne. A few of the guests that I met on board: Chris...

Last Day in Cannes...
Wow! There’s so much to recap from last night’s yacht party but today our focus is on our screening at Festival de Cannes Short Film Corner. It’s in less than an hour and we’re getting pumped up and ready to give our best pitch! Stay tuned as I’ll update again after the screening…

Big Night in Cannes!
Another day of promoting our screening by spending time at the lovely beachside American Pavilion. Today we pitched the film to programmers from American Film Institute and National Geographic. One of the amazing things that I’ve observed about Cannes is that it is more accessible than I ever imagined! Some of the best contacts we’ve made have been during random encounters like...

Recap
Yesterday was extremely action-packed! We spent the afternoon at the American Pavilion networking with other filmmakers, writers, producers, and financiers. They were very interested in Longhouse Media’s angle on telling stories through film about contemporary Native people and felt that there is definitely potential for our work to be carried in Europe. We also set the screening time for...

Feeling the Cannes Magic!
I can already feel that today is going to be really special. We had a smooth morning, caught the train right on time, met some fellow American filmmakers who are also showing their film at Cannes, and got confirmation to attend a couple of official Cannes parties in the next few days. One of these parties is on a yacht and one of THE biggest parties of the entire festival and we’re super...

Spike Lee Productions, Hidden Villa and Trains -...
Today was a bit of an odd one… First, I awakened in Nice after sleeping for 14 straight hours. I guess the lack of sleep during all those hours of travel plus jet lag finally did me in. Tracy and I got to Cannes late in the afternoon and went to the American Pavilion to print out our marketing materials and catch up on emails. There we met Brent Owens, a producer who has worked...

Blogging via Phone is Complicated!
Sorry for the multiple posts over the past couple of days! It’s hard to blog from a cell phone because sometimes the connection fades in and out. So a few of my posts posted multiple times… C’est la vie! I’ll be making a post later today after we do some mundane errands and actually get to the good stuff here in Cannes.

First Impressions at Festival de Cannes
Wow. Festival de Cannes is really overwhelming! Since it’s our first time at this festival, Tracy and I are quickly learning all of the insider tricks of the trade in how to promote the film and make the most of this unique opportunity. We arrived in Cannes today just in time for the panel. Tracy Rector did a great job moderating the panel as well as being a panelist with Brazilian...

Bon chance!
We knew that we had a long journey ahead of us, but it was made even longer by a 7 hour flight delay in Boston. We were supposed to arrive in Paris at 6 am but didn’t actually arrive until nearly 1 pm. This delay could have been a catastrophe since there are only so many trains that go to the south of France per day. Luckily we were able to book an overnight train to Nice and even have...

Travel Day
Today we’re starting our epic journey to Cannes. It’s epic not only because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but because it will also take us two days to get to our final destination! Tracy and I left Seattle this morning before dawn and are now making a pit stop in Salt Lake City before arriving in Boston this afternoon. From there we fly across the Atlantic into Paris,...
